Hi There,

This is to everyone who´s considering going abroad and especially to those who wants to become an Au Pair in Australia: Just do it

Now some reasons why it was the best decision I could have made:

ania au-pair in australien

All started on the 25th of July 2010 when I got onto the plane to Sydney. I arrived on the 27th of July. A pickup service brought me to the most beautiful hostel, the YHA Harbour. And it didn´t take me long to make some really lovely friends. And let me tell you, there´s nothing better than accompanied sightseeing ;) Then, on my second day I had my meetup with Jenell. She found me some really nice families and already arranged an interview for the following day. Of course I was pretty nervous as well as excited. It turned out that this family was kind of a german family which wasn´t exactly what I dreamed of. In the end my decision was made. I´ve chosen this very family who was the most generous and loving family I could have possibly found.

I started to work for my new Hostfamily on the 31st of July. Sabiene and Manfred agreed to an AuPair-Working-Plan which involved working from Mon-Fri from 8.30am to 5pm. The first day Manfred, my Hostdad, would spend the day together with me and the kids. He would show me the way to Arquinn´s (5) school, food the boys like etc. It honestly was kind of an overload of information for the first day. Really helpul for the following days, weeks and months, though.

A typical day:

I started to work at 8.30am. I made brekkie, dressed the boys, prepared the boys´ lunch and Arquinn´s morning tea for school plus I packed some snacks for Kian (1, 5). We mostly left the house around 9am to drop of Arquinn at school. Kian and I soon found some beautiful activities and places to go during the day. Such as mother´s group, playgroup, sing-along-group and of course a few parks. We both were very keen to spend the days outside and enjoyed the lovely Aussie weather and people, too. We went to the Community Centre, where most of those groups have taken part. And there was a park too so we stuck around there almost daily. I normally took Kian home at 10.30am to give him his lunch, make him ready for bed and give him some quiet time with either a book or a lullaby before going to sleep. Kian mostly slept 2 hours and more so I´ve had a lot of time to already prepare dinner for both boys, doing the wash if necessary and some more domestic work. ania-aupair-in-australien

After the domestic work was done I´ve had time to get myself some lunch and recover (essential). Kian mostly woke up right on time to pick up Arquinn. I dressed him, changed his nappy, gave him some snacks and put him into the pram to get Arquinn from school. After school the boys mostly had a play down at the park just next to Arquinn´s school. Dinnertime was 4.30pm, just before Sabiene returned from work.

Yep, that was one typical amazing day!
Happy Times!!!

Thumbs up to everyone who wants to go overseas,

Anja
